Career Planning : Dream vs Goal (Define To Design)
Today we are going to start a special journey! I am sure next 2-3 weeks are going to be exciting for you all. Don't read but follow the activities at the end. So, tighten your seat- belt as it's going to be super fun.
So, how many of you wanted to be a Pilot, Astronaut, Doctor, Scientist, Sailor, Detective and even super hero, when you were five years old? Well, I wanted to be 'Dexter' when I was a child. Dexter was a researcher, a scientist, experimenting in lab, sometimes blasting the labs and more often harassed by siblings...!! In my childhood, cartoons used to help me deciding what I want to be in my life just like everyone else.
Being a child, it was most confusing for me to decide between the dreams and reality.
Slowly and gradually, I understood the difference between the dreams and goals in the real world. One word is the difference between Dreams Vs Goals. And that one word is TIME - A Deadline.
Let's say for example my Dream is to become scientist like Dexter or Dr APJ Abdul Kalam but goal/reality is becoming a scientist by age of 20/22/25/30/40/50/60.
Yes, you read it correct. Goals can have deadline of age of 50 too which you haven't been taught or being said by any of our well-wishers. Another point of view is, parents sometimes say, don't dream so much it isn't real or friends saying come out of your dreams. I suggest to the same with some twist. Come out of your dreams and comfort zone and work hard to achieve your dreams with planning in a deadline. The journey of dreams to goal needs a lot of planning, organization along with a firm determination. Nothing can be achieved if we don't want to achieve it and nothing is impossible if we put efforts in RIGHT DIRECTION.
I know you might have lot many questions or disagreements thinking there are lots of hurdles and sometimes social concern to choose something that you want to choose. But, working with proper steps might change all of these. Say for example, a student good at studies and also photography as a hobby wants to be Photographer in his/her career, but, would be stopped or advised to focus more on studies rather than roaming all day taking random photographs. Similar is the story of Sandesh Kadur, awarded as CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year and one of the best wildlife photographers in India. He converted his dream into goal and goal to reality with lot of hurdles and breaking the barriers to achieve the success he has today. Want to know his story? (Subscribe us and we will notify you once we will share his story from a student's point of view)
There are many more people like our own 'King Khan' who achieved both his dream and goal in his life- doctorate, along with being India's one of the most favorite actor. People get doctorate first and then become actor while SRK got doctorate and many other reputed degrees and awards after successful career as actor. So, he achieved multiple dreams but with his own plans and he converted his own dialogue a reality 'Nam to suna hoga'
So, first things we learnt is we all can dream, make efforts to turn them true. There are no boundaries until your brain sets one for you. Now, are you ready for putting some efforts to turn your dream into goal and a reality? If yes, let us start with an activity today- enlist what are your dreams and talk to people that how much time it will take to achieve those? Enlist all of them along with the skills you have and the skills you need to polish to achieve those.
That's all for now. I'll be back soon with some more pieces of treasure for career. Till then, Stay tuned, dream big- work hard- achieve your goal- set a new one- repeat..!
See you all soon..
