The work of IAS officer includes framing and implementation of policies, handling government affairs and fund disbursement. Like corporate organization here is also hierarchical structure in which this department works. Sub-divisional magistrate, district collector etc. Area of work involves law, order, administration and assigned area development projects. At senior level they are entrusted to work upon policy formulation, implementation and development.
IAS officers are generally promoted every 4-5 years. With minimum rent bungalows facilities like, cooks, gardeners, security guard, transportation and telecommunications are provided to them. After retirement, they get lifetime monthly pension and other perks & benefits too.
For sincere and committed officer day begins at 9:00 am in the morning and ends at late evening. Office hours look like attending innumerable visitors, plethora of meetings, pile of files to sign and enormous phone calls to attend. Life of an IAS officers depends on physical ability and mental strength. They are expected to fulfill lot of expectations.
Many a times, work hours reaches to 16-18 hours. In critical conditions and time of emergencies they have to work for longer hours 24-36 hours. They have to submit lot of field assignments and the demand for the same is increasing day by day. Major heavily work comes from the central government as compare to state government.
All powerful IAS officers are citizens of India. They are expected to be even more careful and cautious when it comes to performing duties and abiding rules and regulations.
